Updated schedule with 3pm make up games.

All, to finish the season on time,we need to make up the games from the week of 15 Feb 2015, in order to do that we will be playing a 3pm to 4pm game for the next 3 weeks. No teams will play 3 games in one day but in order to make it work there will be some back to back games. Please pass on the updated schedule to your team mates.

Sunday 3/1/15, keeping on eye on the weather, games are scheduled to start on time. No makeup games this week, just the regularly scheduled games. If there are any changes, I'll get the word out as soon as I can.

End of November Update!!!!

Greetings, as we wrap up "Free" November in the Groton Floor Hockey League, Let me take a moment to pass on the mission statement from Groton Parks and Rec.

Mission Statement:

The mission of Groton Parks and Recreation is to provide quality leisure opportunities in a safe and healthy atmosphere and to enhance the quality of life through the responsible management of fiscal and natural resources.

Remember, we are responsible for our own actions on and off the floor and there is ZERO TOLERANCE for fighting of any kind.

Next stick time is Friday Dec 5th, 530pm -730pm. You must be signed up through Parks and Rec to participate. If you sign up online, please bring your receipt with you so I can mark you off the list.

November Update part 2

UPDATE to last nights update. Schedule time change on SUNDAYS until the start of the league play will be 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Patches O'Houlihan has the gym for Dodgeball until the end of the year. Mark your calenders with the time change, and as always, lets play some puck!

November Update!!!

All, here is the November update; We are 4 days away from starting Sunday night pickups! We will have stick time on Fridays and Sundays, Fridays 530pm-730pm and Sundays 400pm-600pm.
The hours on Sunday are adjusted for the 6pm Dodge Ball program, as Patches said "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball" We will be setting up and breaking down on both days, this year there is basketball on Saturdays.
As always, bring a light and a dark shirt, (gray is not a color), tape the bottom of your sticks, keep the sticks down, no sliding, and have fun!
Look forward to seeing everybody back this years and maybe some new faces too.

Groton Dek Hockey - (GFHL) 2014-15 Season

Greetings and felicitations,

It’s that time of the year again, time to dust off the sneakers, time to make sure your twig is straight,  this is the first call for the Groton Floor Hockey Winter League!

Let me re-introduce myself, I am George White and I will be your league commissioner for the GFHL. I am the also the captain of the Orange team the Shack.

As most of you know, we usually transition indoors in November and this year is the same. We are looking at Sunday Nov 9^th at 530pm as being our first night indoors. The month of November’s pre-season practices will be FREE. A full pre-season practice schedule will be sent out and posted on the unofficial website as it is worked out, and the link to register for the league too, once it is updated in the Discovery magazine. 

For the returning teams, I have the following;

Team – Capt.

Marshall Law – Nick DeDominicis (Gray) (The 2014 GFHL Champs)

Shack (Waiting on name suggestions) – George White (Orange)

Royal Blue II – Kirk Kellogg (Blue)

Bulldogs – Mike Smith (Black)

The Donnybrooks – Kyle Stone (Green)

Dek Heads – Paul Passes (Red) (This is an off chute of Royal Blue)

On a side note, the league is looking for people to Referee. It is a great way to see the game from a different perspective, and to make a little extra money! Perspective referees will have to go through the ECRHL referee clinic and be AAU certified, please contact me if you are interested.

All you need to do to participate in the FREE November pre-season practice sessions is be 15 years or older and sign the liability waiver that will be available at every session. (If you are younger than 18 you must have parent or legal guardian sign waiver.)

***All pre-season practice sessions are run as pick-up games.***

I recommend Hockey Gloves, athletic cup, eye protection, soccer shin pads and a hockey stick with a strip of white tape on bottom of blade.

For the winter league:
Team Captains please let me know what you and/or your teams plans are for the 2015 season so I can start looking at league schedules, and please get your players registered ASAP!   No registration - No playing, I will be getting updated lists weekly from parks and rec.

2014 GFHL Champions!!!!

Congratulations to Marshall Law the 2014 GFHL Champions!!

It was a long 12 weeks, with a lots of well played hockey, with the playoffs being some of the closest games yet, good job everybody!!!

     I would like to thank everybody for all the help during the season, setting up, breaking down the rink, and cleaning up after the games. Thanks to Ray, Seth, Jeff, Mike, and Chris for reffing.  A special thanks goes out to Karl and Danny for being the Off-rink Officials, keeping both time and score for the league, and Craig, Danny and Phil for helping me get the nets ready for the season.

      As we leave the 2014 GFHL season behind a reminder goes out for the Outdoor Dek hockey program. This is a great way to keep your skills fresh in an outdoor pickup environment playing with some of the same players from the league. This program can be found here Hockey: Street - 238316. Championship Sunday!!!! Sunday 3/30/13 (Week 12)

Well, we are at the last week of Groton Floor Hockey. The last 11 weeks have seen some good floor hockey leading up to this Sunday. This is the schedule for Sunday;

Week 12	Sunday, MAR 30th	4:00 p.m.	Royal Blue		Bulldogs
		5:00 p.m.	Shack		Marshall Law
	Championship Game	6:00 p.m.	Winner 1 or 4		Winner 2 or 3

There will be team photos prior to the first and second games.

Summary of Events from last Sunday 3/16/14

All, this is a summary of all the events from last Sunday’s games;

A player was suspended for the remainder of the season, this includes Friday night stick time, for their actions after receiving a Game Ejection penalty (3 penalties in a game). They received a second Game Misconduct penalty for Abuse of Officials as they were leaving the gym.

A player was suspended for the remainder of the season, this includes Friday night stick time, for their retaliatory actions after being roughed by another player. Throwing a punch in any manner is fighting and fighting is not tolerated GFHL.

Two players were suspended for one game for leaving the bench during an altercation. 

There has been an increase this season in this type of play and with only two weeks left I expect ALL players to keep themselves, their equipment, and their emotions  under control and finish the season on a positive note.

Week one!

All, stats are updated, use the links on the right to get to them. Please remember to pick up after yourself before leaving the gym (used water/gatorade bottles, used tape,etc...) and make sure you have all your equipment with you when you leave.
FOUND: Lefty Warrior stick on the away bench. I will bring it with me on Friday/Sunday.

All, due to snow storm Hercules the Groton Schools are closed which means that the Park and rec's activities are cancelled. I am waiting to hear from GP&R to see if we can get in to Fitch Middle tonight to play, I should hear from them about 3pm on whether or not we will be playing tonight. I will send out an update around then and update the website. if we don't play tonight, stay warm and see everybody on Sunday.

GFHL 2013 Year end update and 2014 Game Schedule!!!!!

All, As 2013 comes to a close and we reflect on what we have accomplished through out the last 10 months and realize that we had way to much turkey or ham, way to many deserts, and not enough hockey! LOL
Well the time has come to knock off several weeks of dust, get the sticks ready and play some puck,
here is the 2014 game schedule, 5 team format, 12 games, play each other 3 times, and with playoffs in week 11.

The first official stick time/practice will be 1/3/14 @ 530pm. Registration is still open so there is time to get your players signed up before the first week!!!

Mid December Update!

Hi All, just a mid-December reminder that registration is still open for the GFHL! Let's get your players/teams signed up. We will be dropping the puck for the 2014 season on 1/5/14!

There is a pickup scheduling change for Friday 12/20/13. Due to (maintanence) ceiling tile replacement in the gym from 12/17- 12/23, there will be NO pickup on 12/20. We will resume Friday night stick time on Friday 1/3/14.

GFHL registration is still open!!!!!!  The Dec 1^st registration date has passed, all this means is that you cannot participate in Decembers Fridays and Sundays pickups and of course any league play until you are registered/paid  through Groton Parks and Rec.

For those that have registered already, thank you. For those that still need to, get your registration forms in ASAP. We have 5 more stick time sessions till the holiday break.

GFHL November update!!!

All, update to the pre-season practice stick time.

Due to the re-scheduled floor resurfacing /resealing the gym will not be available for hockey on Friday Nov 8^th and Sunday Nov 10^th. We will recommence on Friday Nov 15^th. Also there is a time change Sundays for pre-season practices. The new time is 430-630pm due to the Dodgeball program starting at 7pm.
