Early December Update!

GFHL registration is still open!!!!!!  The Dec 1^st registration date has passed, all this means is that you cannot participate in Decembers Fridays and Sundays pickups and of course any league play until you are registered/paid  through Groton Parks and Rec.

For those that have registered already, thank you. For those that still need to, get your registration forms in ASAP. We have 5 more stick time sessions till the holiday break.

GFHL November update!!!

All, update to the pre-season practice stick time.

Due to the re-scheduled floor resurfacing /resealing the gym will not be available for hockey on Friday Nov 8^th and Sunday Nov 10^th. We will recommence on Friday Nov 15^th. Also there is a time change Sundays for pre-season practices. The new time is 430-630pm due to the Dodgeball program starting at 7pm.

Players bring a light and dark shirt to make it easier when making teams. (sticks in the middle format will be used)  I recommend Hockey Gloves, athletic cup, eye protection, hockey/soccer shin pads and a hockey stick with a strip of white tape on bottom of blade.

As a reminder Registrations need to be submitted to Groton Parks and Rec. NLT December 1st, 2013.   No registration - No playing.

It’s almost time, just a few more weeks before we head indoors for some pre-season pickup.  A lot of things are happening and happening fast. We have 5 confirmed teams still waiting to hear from the 6^th.

The returning teams are:

Royal Blue – Kirk Kellogg (Blue)

Shack – George White (Orange)

Bulldogs – Mike Smith (Black)

Marshall Law – Nick DeDominicis (Grey)

Team Kyle – Kyle Stone (color?)

The sixth team is the Desert Eagles, we have not heard a definite yea or nay from them, but we are working on it. Over the next week or so we will be repairing and painting the goals for the start of pre-season.

For the winter league:
Team Captains please let me know what you and/or your teams plans are for the 2014 season so I can start looking at league schedules and get them posted. The season will start on January 5th, 2014.

Congratulation to the GFHL 2013 Champions: Royal Blue

Congratulations to Royal Blue the 2013 GFHL Chapmions! 

      I would like to thank everybody for making my inaugural season as league commissioner one that I will not soon forget, from you the players keeping the sticks down,  playing clean, and showing good sportsmanship, to Mike, Chris,and Kirk for stepping in to assist Ray in refereeing, and to Karl and Danny for keeping the time and stats well organized. Thank you!

During the next couple of months as we shift to outdoor pickup,  please keep a couple of things in mind for next season; we would like to grow the league from 4 teams to 6 teams, so if you know anybody who is or might be interested in joining, please give them the league and my contact information. Also please keep an ear out for upcoming referee clinics, we would like to create a pool of qualified/certified referees to work in our league and possibly the roller league (ECRHL) too. It's a great way to earn a little extra cash, be part of league growth, and see the game from a different perspective.

Again, thank you, and I look forward to seeing you next season, now lets go play some pickup,lol.

Updated start times for Sunday 3/24/13, Championship Sunday

All, due to a new program at the gym, Dodgeball, which starts at 7pm, and with us having three games vice two on 3/24/13 ONLY, the Championship weekend, we will be starting our games 1/2 hour earlier. Games will now be from 4pm-5pm, 5pm-6pm, 6pm-7pm on that Sunday only, 3/24/2013.

Groton Floor Hockey UPDATED schedule!!!

All, due to the recent winter storm, NEMO, the schedule has been redone to make up the games missed on Feb 10th.  We will extend the season by 1 week, the games will be made up on March 17th, with playoffs on March 24th.

Groton Floor Hockey League 2012 Season Game and Practice schedules

The GFHL in this 2012 season has 5 teams competing to be immortalized in this web sites Hall of Champions. Each team will play 12 games this season and will face each of the other teams a total of 3 times. At the end of the season the team with the best record will be inducted into the 2012 GFHL Hall of Champions. Good luck and as always Safety First.

Below are the scheduled dates for our FREE Pre-season Practice times that will carry us into the 2012 GFHL Winter session. All you need to do to participate in the FREE pre-season practice sessions is be 15 years or older and sign the liability waiver that will be available at every session. (If you are younger than 18 you must have parent or legal guardian sign waiver.)

***All pre-season practice sessions are run as pick-up games.***

I recommend Hockey Gloves, athletic cup, eye protection, soccer shin pads and a hockey stick with a strip of white tape on bottom of blade.

Below is a schedule showing the dates on which pre-season practice will be held. This schedule will be updated if we are required to cancel a session for one reason or another. Always check this web site before heading out to Fitch Middle school to play. (Notice there are already a few dates where we will not be playing.)

We play at Fitch Middle School on Friday nights from 5:30-7:30. Fitch Middle School is located at 61 Fort Hill Rd Groton, CT 06340 if you wish to Mapquest it.
